"the Germans are scoundrels" (немцы подлецы)

Germans-are-scoundrels jab

also: немцы подлецы

A throwaway ethnic jab -- 'I eat, I sleep, and I bathe; the Germans are scoundrels' -- tacked on with no context or development, in the same unexamined-prejudice register as other stock period slurs in Chekhov's private correspondence. Not elaborated or returned to elsewhere in the letter; preserved unsoftened per the corpus's sensitivity policy of presenting documented period usage factually rather than suppressing it, and flagged here for context rather than endorsed.
