Ivan Kochevoy (the elder)

Ivan Kochevoy

A poor clerk and "bitter drunkard" who died of drink, leaving behind the orphaned nine-year-old son the Laptev family took in, sheltered among the clerks, and eventually paid to educate at the second Moscow gymnasium on Razgulyai -- the boy who grew up to be Konstantin (Kostya) Kochevoy; recalled only in Nina Fyodorovna's rambling deathbed reminiscence in Part IX.
