A young married woman discovered behind a screen in the narrator's shared room at the post station, laughing and dark-eyed, complaining of bedbugs; her husband Fedya insists the narrator (falsely claiming to be a doctor) examine her for a chest complaint, which the narrator bumblingly obliges. Addressed in the narrator's invented prescription under the fictitious married surname "Madame Syelova" -- the surname is the narrator's own joke/invention within the story, not a separate identity.
