Ariadna Grigoryevna Kotlovich

The beautiful, vain, and endlessly resourceful sister of the spiritualist landowner Kotlovich; the title character and object of Shamokhin's obsessive love, she moves from flirting with Shamokhin at their neighboring estates to touring Europe with the married Lubkov, to becoming Shamokhin's mistress once Lubkov is discarded, all while performing charm and social ambition for whoever is in the room and remaining, by Shamokhin's account, essentially indifferent to him.
