An unidentified acquaintance of Shcheglov's, jocularly styled "boyar Alexius" (a mock-archaic title) by Chekhov, to whom Chekhov asks Shcheglov to pass on one of two enclosed photographs. Not otherwise identified in the correspondence; distinct from Shcheglov himself, the letter's addressee.
