Possibly connected to Zankovetskaya's Ukrainian theatrical circle given the context (the same letter also relays word of an artist's costume design for her), but this edition does not speculate further than the source allows.

Korobka is named here only by surname (genitive "Коробки"), as the sender of a letter Chekhov received the day before and now forwards on to Zankovetskaya -- presumably because its contents concerned her, though the letter itself gives no further clue as to subject or Korobka's identity or relation to either correspondent. This edition follows the translator's flag and the corpus's honest-uncertainty practice (compare, e.g.,, family:vinogradovs-suvorin-circle): no attempt is made here to identify Korobka with any historical figure beyond what the source itself supports. Given the letter's other business -- a costume design "for the wandering gypsy woman" role, evidently for a production of Zankovetskaya's -- it is plausible Korobka's letter touched on the same theatrical matter, but this remains conjecture, not established fact.
