Alexander Vladimirovich Serebryakov

Serebryakov

also: Александр Владимирович Серебряков

A retired professor, Yelena Andreyevna's husband and Sonya's father by his first marriage, in Chekhov's play "The Wood Demon" (1889); querulous, self-absorbed about his health and his lost youth, and the source of much of the household's grievance. Reworked roughly a decade later into Professor Serebryakov of "Uncle Vanya", a distinct but closely related characterization.
