The unnamed stationmaster who meets the narrator on arrival at the post station: a tall, bald, sleepy-eyed man in striped long underwear with a mustache that seems to grow out of his nostrils. Appears only in the opening sections (sections 2-6); has no further role once the narrator retires to the shared room.
