Named only by surname as the author of a reply printed in the newspaper "Novosti" responding to a Suvorin feuilleton; Chekhov calls the reply snide -- particularly its jab at Suvorin as a mere "feuilletonist" -- and disparages Viskovatov's command of Russian, while wondering whether the man had simply falsified something. Not otherwise identified in the corpus; possibly, but not confirmed here, the literary historian Pavel Viskovatov (Lermontov's biographer), a contemporary figure of the same surname.
