A fictional deceased Titular Councillor whose gravestone epitaph the narrator reads aloud in 'At the Cemetery'; his surname (from 'gryaznyye ruki', dirty hands) hints at petty corruption, and his absurdly banal death -- a concussion from eavesdropping at a door -- deflates his official dignity.
