A short story by Ivan Shcheglov, freshly read by Chekhov, who praises it as excellent -- especially a vivid glimpse of a minor character in a sheepskin coat -- while criticizing two mannered, feuilletonist-style words ("облыжный"/"specious," "бутербродный"/"sandwich-like") as out of place in its warm, tender register; Chekhov urges Shcheglov to write a dozen more such theatrical-life stories and collect them in a volume.
