"The Eleventh"
also: Одиннадцатый, Odinnadtsatyy
An earlier short story by the aspiring writer Nikolai Khlopov, submitted to Chekhov before the story about the sexton Iona; Chekhov judged it competently written but relayed Pleshcheyev's discouraging report that Severny Vestnik already had a long backlog of similar pieces, and by this letter it has been passed on to the critic Burenin.

An earlier story Khlopov had submitted to Chekhov, discussed at length in Chekhov's letter of February 13, 1888 -- the detailed line-by-line critique of the sexton Iona's story. This new, unnamed story is the one Chekhov has just passed to Suvorin.
