Rudin

also: Рудин

Ivan Turgenev's 1856 novel, whose atmospheric prose Nina half-recalls and quotes from during her broken, distracted return visit to Treplyov in Act Four ("Well is it for him who on such nights sits under a sheltering roof..."), breaking off her own train of thought ("I am a seagull... no, that's not it") before catching the line's ending. The exact chapter is not independently identifiable from the play's text alone; it is flagged here as the play's own attribution (Nina says only "Turgenev has a passage...") rather than a chapter-and-verse citation the translators could verify.
