A new Petersburg journal about to begin publishing under Mikeshin and Bykov; Chekhov has his brother take out a subscription in his name, funded from his own fee, apparently as a favor to its founders or simply to support the venture.

Chekhov had only days earlier (in) instructed Alexander to subscribe him to "Solntse," a new Petersburg journal; here he reports its abrupt collapse -- the publisher had absconded and the editors were left unpaid -- and cancels the errand just as quickly as he gave it.
