A brief note of late July 1891 from Bogimovo, the Kaluga province estate the Chekhov family was summering at, addressed to Lidiya (Lika) Stepanovna Mizinova and signed, unusually, not by Anton but by his sister Maria Pavlovna Chekhova – confirmed against the source as a single coherent five-section document: dateline, salutation, the substantive invitation, a mock- plaintive aside, and Maria’s signature.

Maria writes urging Mizinova to break off her "touching threesome union" (an arch reference to whatever household or trio Mizinova was currently keeping company with, not otherwise specified in this short note) for a few days and come to Bogimovo; she offers to talk their brother – Anton – into delaying a planned departure of his own, originally set for 5 August, if Mizinova will arrive by the 1st or 2nd. The letter closes with a one-line comic complaint about a stomachache, in keeping with the family’s habitually joking register with Mizinova, and Maria’s signature, "Loving M. Chekhova."
