Zotov's old yard dog, white with black spots, mangy and half-blind in one eye, cringingly submissive to her master's daily curses; she follows him when he leaves home and is killed alongside the horse at the knacker's yard, flinging herself at the killer with a cry when she sees the horse struck down.
