A lay-led Orthodox reader's service (also called the Typika) that substitutes for the full Divine Liturgy when no priest is available; Yakov Ivanych, who will not attend the local parish church, conducts the obednitsa himself at home along with the Hours and vespers, with his sister Aglaya standing in for a sexton.
