Vyun (Vanka's grandfather's dog)

The grandfather's other dog, a black, weasel-bodied male whose deferential, fawning manner conceals what the narration calls "the most Jesuitical cunning" -- he is expert at sneaking up to snap at legs, raid the ice-cellar, or steal a peasant's chicken, and survives repeated beatings and two hangings.
