The young coachman who drives Kuzmichov's britzka for the novella's opening chapters, about twenty years old and thinking of marrying, but still enough of a boy at heart to hop on one foot, catch grasshoppers, and join wholeheartedly in Yegorushka's games during the noon rest. A fictional character of "The Steppe," not a real person.
