A wagon driver and former choir singer whose voice has been ruined, reduced now to silently "conducting" remembered hymns with his hands; Dymov's mockery of his onetime status as a singer is the spark for one of the wagon-train's several small quarrels. A fictional character of "The Steppe," not a real person.
