The circus performer's black pig, one of Auntie's fellow performing animals in Chekhov's "Kashtanka" (1887); introduced in "Wonders in a Sieve" (Chapter Five) being summoned in for the "Egyptian pyramid" trick with the goose Ivan Ivanych and the cat Fyodor Timofeyich, her good-natured unconcern with Auntie's growling teaching Auntie that not every stranger in the household is a threat.
