Leda

also: Леда

In Greek myth, the queen of Sparta whom Zeus courted in the form of a swan. Invoked in the opening of "A Fish's Love" (1892) as the second in a mock-escalating series of precedents for impossible love, comically legitimizing the crucian carp's passion for a human summer visitor with the swan's love for Leda.
