The unnamed "stranger" who finds Kashtanka lost in the street, takes her in, renames her Auntie, and trains her as a circus artiste alongside the cat Fyodor Timofeyich, the goose Ivan Ivanych, and the pig Khavronya Ivanovna; his stage name, used only by the announcer before his ring entrance, is given as "Mr. George."
