Alexei Alexeyevich Murashkin

Tolkachov's friend, at whose home the play's entire action takes place; half-sympathetic and half-incredulous through Tolkachov's tirade, he obliviously tries to hand Tolkachov one more errand (a sewing machine and a caged canary for Olga Pavlovna Finberg) at the play's end, precipitating Tolkachov's final breakdown and being chased around the room for it.
