Pekarsky

A tall, lean lawyer of about forty-five in Orlov's Thursday circle, immensely capable and influential in business and administrative affairs (railway counsel, bank work, guardianships) but constitutionally unable to understand emotion, abstraction, or why anyone would grieve or kill themselves over anything. He shelters Orlov at his own flat during both of Orlov's fabricated "inspection tours," repeatedly advises Orlov simply to rent Zinaida Fyodorovna a separate apartment, and is later deputized by Orlov to arrange the placement of Zinaida Fyodorovna's orphaned daughter Sonya.
