Nina Fyodorovna's elder daughter, ten years old at the novella's opening; a thin, dark-haired, watchful child who reads aloud to her dying mother, runs alone through the winter streets to fetch her father the night Nina dies, and is later raised, with her sister Lida, by Laptev and Yulia in Moscow.
