Sema
also: Сема, козлиная бородка, the goat's beard, Семушка, Semushka, дурачок, the simpleton, Борода, Beard
A small, thin, pockmarked peasant with a goat's beard, the village "durachok" (simpleton) -- gentle, nearly wordless, and about fifty years old with the understanding of a child. He shares the corpse-watch with the young peasant, is gently lectured about bettering his wits, and is finally left alone by the body when his companion goes to guide the frightened pilgrim to the village.
