Society for Aid to Stage Performers
also: Общество вспомоществования сценическим деятелям, Общество вспомоществования сцен[ическим] деятелям
A Russian charitable/mutual-aid body supporting stage performers, distinct from the professional-rights Society of Russian Dramatic Writers and Opera Composers (institution:society-dramatic-writers). Chekhov asks in this letter whether Bazarov has passed on proceeds from "Ivanov" to this Society.
Reading notes
- To I. L. Leontyev, 6 May 1889. Sumy. §7 Society for Aid to Stage Performers
A newly catalogued institution entity: a charitable/mutual-aid body supporting stage performers, distinct from the professional-rights Society of Russian Dramatic Writers and Opera Composers named in \S11 (institution:society-dramatic-writers). The two organizations are not to be conflated -- one is a charitable benefit fund, the other a rights-protection professional body Chekhov had just joined the committee of.
- To A. Dmitriyev, 21 September 1889. Moscow. §5 the Society for the Aid of Theatrical Workers
Общество вспомоществования сценическим деятелям (institution:society-aid-stage-performers), the same charitable/mutual-aid body for stage performers Chekhov references elsewhere in the corpus (e.g., regarding proceeds from "Ivanov"); here he suggests, but explicitly does not require, a fifteen-ruble donation after the play's first performance.
