- The Teacher §1 factory school
Large Russian textile factories in the 1880s often funded and ran their own primary schools for workers' children, staffed by salaried teachers and periodically inspected alongside government (zemstvo) schools; such a post gave a teacher unusual material comfort (see Sysoev's boast of a 500-ruble salary and a factory-furnished apartment) at the cost of dependency on the factory administration's goodwill.
