The estate's barin, who emerges from his orchard in a Persian-shawl dressing gown to scold the workmen for letting the herd stray, then -- gripped by fishing excitement at the word 'burbot' -- strips down and joins the men in the water himself, finally landing the fish only to lose it at the last second.
