Apollon Alexandrovich Maikov

Apollon Alexandrovich

also: Аполлон Александрович Майков, А. А. Майков

Apollon Alexandrovich Maikov (1826-1902), a state official and public figure, addressee of (5 September 1889) and a committee colleague of Chekhov's -- almost certainly connected to the Society of Russian Dramatic Writers and Opera Composers (institution:society-dramatic-writers), on whose committee Chekhov served. NOT to be confused with the poet Apollon Nikolayevich Maikov, a "pure art" lyric poet with no documented connection to this correspondence, despite sharing given name, patronymic initial, and surname. Also distinct from, an unrelated "A. A. Maikov" recorded elsewhere in this corpus as a candidate for the Society's chairmanship -- the corpus does not confirm these two "A. A. Maikov" references are the same person, so they are kept as separate entities pending further evidence.
