Viktor Ipatievich Askochensky (1813-1879), a conservative Russian journalist, novelist, and editor of the reactionary periodical "Domashnyaya Beseda," known for his mystically tinged moralizing; invoked here as one of the historical figures Navagin's saucer supposedly summons, alongside Napoleon and Hannibal, during his spiritualist phase.
