person
Bogdanov
also: Богданов
A figure evidently connected with Suvorin's bookselling operation, invoked twice by Chekhov in this letter: once for a phrase Bogdanov is said to favor ("you are the heir apparent"), and once unflatteringly compared to the manager of Suvorin's Odessa shop. Not the same person as (the Oskolki illustrator N. A. Bogdanov); identity unresolved -- flagged provisional pending confirmation.
Reading notes
- To A. S. Suvorin, 15 November 1889. Moscow. §5 who takes me for your spy
"считающий меня Вашим шпионом" -- a joking aside: the shop clerk Bogdanov apparently suspects Chekhov of being sent by Suvorin to check up on the bookshop's operations, and extends a discount accordingly (whether from genuine goodwill or wary flattery is left ambiguous in Chekhov's telling).
