Dmitry Bortniansky (1751-1825), the foremost composer of Russian Orthodox sacred choral music and longtime director of the Imperial Court Chapel Choir; his numbered settings of the Cherubic Hymn were standard repertoire for parish choirs throughout the 19th century.
