Demakov Printing House

Demakov

also: Демаков, Demakov

The Petersburg printing house (owned by V. S. Balashev, operating under the Demakov name) used by Suvorin's "Novoye Vremya" enterprises for typesetting, including the printed text of "Ivanov"; here blamed for a delay sending Chekhov his offprints despite demand from Rassokhin's lending library. Functions in the correspondence as shorthand for the printing house/printer rather than necessarily a single named individual Chekhov had met personally; recurs later in the corpus (e.g.) in connection with printing and offprint delays.
