V. A. Dolgorukov

Dolgorukov

also: В. А. Долгоруков, Долгорукову

V. A. Dolgorukov, a minor poet and correspondent of Chekhov known to him from the Siberian journey, addressee of this fragment (letter otherwise unidentified further in the source). Chekhov here both chides him for not cursing the state of the road and offers brief literary criticism of his verse (a good soul and competent technique, but language not plain enough). Distinct from (Prince Vladimir Andreyevich Dolgorukov, 1810-1891, Governor-General of Moscow) -- same surname, unrelated identity; nothing in this fragment ties the addressee to the princely title or the Moscow office.
