Dyadin

also: Илья Ильич Дядин, Waffle, Вафля

A comic neighbor nicknamed "Waffle" ("Вафля"), given to elaborate compliments and carving ham with mock ceremony, in "The Wood Demon"; has no direct counterpart in "Uncle Vanya," though his sonorous, self-deprecating comic register anticipates figures like Telegin ("Waffle" himself, confusingly, is also the later play's nickname for Telegin -- an unrelated coincidence of nickname reuse, not a character carryover).
