Fictional character in the play "The Wood Demon", a contemporary of Korovin but already a State Councillor and a wealthy official, honest and sincere but unable to live "by the heart" as he wishes. An unsuccessful practical suitor for Nastya.

FICTIONAL CHARACTER -- Nastya's practical-minded, official suitor, holding the civil rank of State Councillor (a Table-of-Ranks grade distinct from Blagosvetlov's membership in the State Council institution named at \S6). "The Wood Demon" here again refers to the character Korovin, not the play; see the \S10 note.
