A horsewoman (equestrian/circus performer) of Chekhov's acquaintance, mentioned to Suvorin's sons Aleksei Alekseyevich and Borya. Chekhov gives a blunt, unflattering appraisal: apart from her "haute école" riding and handsome muscles she has nothing remarkable, calling the rest of her "ordinary and vulgar," though he allows that, judging by her face, she must be a sweet woman.

Godfroy (Годфруа) is an equestrian/circus performer of Chekhov's acquaintance, newly attested in this letter. Chekhov's appraisal is blunt and unsoftened in translation: apart from her "haute \'ecole" riding and handsome muscles she has nothing remarkable, the rest being "ordinary and vulgar" -- though he allows, from her face, that she must be a sweet woman.
