Ivan Filaretov

A forty-two-year-old peasant shepherd of the village of Dunkino, summoned as a witness before the examining magistrate Popikov in the case against Alexei Drykhunov for beating his wife; his rambling, easily distracted testimony, delivered with the familiar 'ty' toward the magistrate, drives the story's whole comic interrogation.
