A servant at Luka or in the Chekhov household who, on hearing how skillfully Valentina Nikolaevna had strapped up Chekhov's luggage, paused, scratched behind his ear, and heaved a deep sigh. Not otherwise identified; distinct from the many other "Ivan" figures in Chekhov's fiction.
