A woman to whom Chekhov compares the youthful appearance of Alexander Pavlovich Lensky's wife, and with whom the Chekhovs' mother seems to be striking up a friendship. UNRESOLVED LOOSE THREAD (do not force-identify): Lensky's wife is mentioned here only by comparison to "Karolina Yegorovna," an otherwise unidentified woman; the following clause adds that the Chekhovs' mother ("Ma,") seems to be striking up something like a friendship with this same Karolina. Both the comparison-point Karolina Yegorovna and Lensky's wife herself are attested only in this one letter and are not identifiable elsewhere in the corpus.
