A historical painter of about thirty-five, Yegor Savvich's neighbor and comrade, long-haired and dressed in Shakespearean collars; he arrives that evening to pitch an inflated, unrealized painting pitting a Nero-like tyrant against the idea of Christianity, then leaves near two in the morning.
