Medvedev

also: Медведев

An actor whose appointment to Suvorin's Petersburg theater the newspapers were reporting at the time of this letter. Chekhov gives a blunt, mixed assessment: "a good and intelligent man, a talented actor," but not intelligent enough for a decent theater and "sufficiently overgrown with provincial mold" -- i.e. marked by long service in provincial companies rather than the capital's leading stages. Not otherwise identified in this letter; distinct from the other Medvedevs already in this corpus (the Korsh-troupe actor of, the hard-up student of, and the minor poet of), none of whose contexts match a 1890 appointment to Suvorin's theater.
