Natalya Timofeevna Shekhtel

Natalya Timofeevna

also: Наталье Тимофеевне, Наталья Тимофеевна

A woman close to Fyodor Shekhtel's household, greeted with respects in Chekhov's letters to him; her exact relationship to Shekhtel is not stated in the source text of either letter that mentions her. An earlier pass of this corpus labeled her "Shekhtel's mother"; a later pass (letter 3-550, Dec 1888) identified her as his wife -- but Shekhtel's actual wife, Natalya Timofeyevna Zhegina, married him only in 1893, after this letter, so "wife" would be anachronistic for 1888. Neither label is textually confirmed; flagged here as unresolved rather than asserted.
