Doctor Neshchapov

Neshchapov

also: доктор Нещапов, Нещапов

A pale, slender, perpetually white-waistcoated physician who took a financial share in a nearby coal works some three years earlier and now treats medicine as secondary to business; almost wholly silent in company, indifferent to literature and ideas, yet regarded by the local gentry society as the most interesting man around and, at the aunt's urging, becomes Vera's intended and eventual husband.
