A manservant in Aleksei Suvorin's Feodosia household who died there in the summer of 1891, reported to Chekhov by Suvorin himself; he had gone to Feodosia in the place of another household servant, Vasily. A new, distinct entity -- NOT to be conflated with the other two men named Nikolai in the same letter's orbit: Alexander Chekhov's young son Nikolai/"Nikolka" greeted two sections later or the late painter brother Nikolai Pavlovich Chekhov, who shares the name but is not directly named in this letter.

A servant in Suvorin's Feodosia household, reported by Suvorin himself as having died there; identified only by first name and by having taken the place of another servant, Vasily (section 7,, previously attested in this corpus as Suvorin's footman during Chekhov's 1888 Petersburg stay -- consistent with a substitutable domestic-service role here). This Nikolai is a new, distinct entity and must NOT be conflated with either of the other two Nikolais named elsewhere in this same letter: the deceased painter brother Nikolai Pavlovich Chekhov (referenced only implicitly by family convention and not directly named in this particular letter) or Alexander's young son Nikolai/"Nikolka" greeted in section 9. Three different men named Nikolai therefore appear across this one short letter's orbit; only this one and the nephew are actually named in the text.
