A slim, pink-cheeked lieutenant who, with a stout army doctor, calls at the B. chemist's shop by night to flirt with the pharmacist's wife over peppermint lozenges, soda, and red wine; he circles back alone afterward, only to be served by the woken husband and toss his lozenges into the road.
