Ovsyannikov

Author of a manuscript (dramatizing the trial of an executed clerk, with a character based on or invoking Count Tolstoy) that Chekhov edited for Novoye Vremya, cutting roughly half of it and overriding corrections by Viktor Burenin; Chekhov judges Ovsyannikov "simply foolish and injudicious" and faults the story's central contradiction. Otherwise unidentified contributor to Suvorin's paper; not further identified for this edition.
