Leonid Osipovich Pasternak

Pasternak

also: Пастернак, L. O. Pasternak, Leonid Pasternak

Almost certainly Leonid Osipovich Pasternak (1862-1945), the painter and illustrator (father of the poet Boris Pasternak), active doing illustration work for the Moscow press at this time; named here only by surname ("Pasternak's drawing is very good") as the author of a drawing Chekhov is returning to Kumanin. Flagged as a probable rather than certain identification, per the translator, since the letter gives the surname alone with no initials or further context.
